IN 14 HOURS!!! 1 PAGE Meta-ethics deals with the status of moral knowledge in the world, or our epistemological claims regarding what we claim we know about the world. Chapter 3 further discusses the perspectives of objectivism, cultural relativism, subjective relativism that were briefly introduced in Chapter 1. Each of these perspectives carry their own position on the status of moral principles in the world and the implications of holding such positions. A few things: 1.) Absolutism and Objectivism are related, but they are not the same. Whereas with Absolutism there are no exceptions nor interpretation of moral principles (think back to last week with Divine Command Theory), objectivism insists that while moral principles are objectively true and universally binding, there are exceptions due to context or application. Also, if a person is rationally incapable of recognizing the moral principle, exceptions are made. But that does not erase the major premise of objectivism – that is that moral principles exist independently of cultural or subjective difference. In formulating your thoughts on these meta-ethical perspectives and after having watched the video in class on honor killing, reading Chapter 3, and my summary , consider the following questions in your response to this forum: Honor Killing LINK : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDn5QcrwqdA 1.) Are you a cultural relativist? Why or why not? Here, use the example of honor killing from class. 2.) Does relativism breed an attitude of open mindedness and tolerance towards different cultures?
